JAYAPURA - The Communication and Informatics Department of Papua invites students in Papua to be wise in using social media through digital literacy programs.
This time, the team from the Communication and Informatics Department targeted students at SMP Negeri 1 Jayapura, through the Digital Literacy socialization agenda, Thursday (6/10/2022).
Head of The Communication and Informatics Department, Jeri A. Yudianto said, in social media specifically and surfing in cyberspace in general, students have the potential to be faced with fake news (hoaxes) and provocative news.
Therefore, students at the junior high school level (vulnerable age) need to be given understanding in order to sort out the information consumed and passed on through their social media.
"Because on social media, not all information is useful, because there is also information that is wrong, provocative and so on," he explained.
Jeri still said that another digital literacy program, not only targets students, but also parents and even teachers.
The program will begin to be implemented next year, so that parents and teachers have the right techniques in monitoring children who use various social media platforms.
The Head of SMP N 1 Jayapura, Purnama Sinaga, appreciated the Communication and Informatics Department of Papua for choosing a local school to provide digital literacy material for students.
"This program is very good because it is in line with the literacy movement program in schools to develop literacy, science and digital. But for digital, it only focuses on utilizing learning features or platforms," he said.
He also added that digital literacy socialization for students is important to continue to be carried out so that their students can avoid victims of technology and information crimes.
It is known that the digital literacy socialization activity by the Communication and Informatics Department of Papua, Thursday morning, was attended by around 100 more students accompanied by teachers. ***
