JAYAPURA - The supply of food stocks in Papua Province four days before the Christmas celebration on December 25, 2023, is confirmed to be maintained and available in the market.
According to the Head of the Papua Communication and Informatics Agency, Jeri A. Yudianto from field monitoring, stocks of basic commodities are still safe, despite the increase in prices of chili and several other commodities.
"But I reiterate that the increase in some foods such as chili is regional/national."
"The price increase is also due to limited food and production," Jeri explained to reporters in Jayapura, on Thursday (12/21/2023), after monitoring at traditional markets and supermarkets in Jayapura City.
According to Jeri, the Papua Provincial Government is currently not standing still responding to the increase in some food commodities in Cenderawasih Earth.
Monitoring and supervision continue to be carried out with related parties to anticipate the movement of food price increases that "strangle" residents.
"We also expect people in Papua to shop wisely. The point is not to panic, so you can still be happy to celebrate Christmas and New Year," he urged.
Meanwhile, the Logistic Agency for the Papua region released rice stock data as of December 21, 2023, with a resilience of up to 3.1 months in the future with an estimated operational stock of 9,104 tons.
Commercial rice reached 749 tons, while sugar was 178 tons and cooking oil 139 tons.
The Papua Provincial Government on various occasions has also carried out market operations, surprise inspections and even cheap market activities at some points, to minimize the increase in food prices ahead of Christmas and New Year. ***
