JAYAPURA - ActingAssistant for Economic and Development of the Secretary of Papua, Suzana Wanggai ensures that Cenderawasih Earth is still free from the spread of the African Swine Fever (ASF) virus.
Therefore, Suzana appealed to residents not to panic excessively because Papua was still in the safe zone.
"There has been no ASF virus found in Papua, so residents don't need to panic. This virus is also not contagious to humans," explained Suzana in Jayapura, on Wednesday (21/2/2024).
Nevertheless, she continued, the Papua Provincial Government is now imposing a lockdown or closing access to livestock and processed pork products from outside. This policy is to anticipate the spread of ASF or African Swine fever.
Meanwhile, the lockdown period will depend on the situation of the spread of the virus. "We will see the lockdown period because this virus has spread in Timika, Central Papua Province. Because in the last time, there were 142 pig deaths in Timika," explained Suzana.
Suzana added that various prevention efforts have been carried out by the Papua Provincial Government and related parties. Such as socialization through social media as well as with pig farmers and restaurants.
In addition, Suzana also asked related parties to carry out strict supervision at seaports and airports.
"We have also made a Governor's Circular and disinfected the pigsty. We prepare disinfectants for those in need in districts / cities," she concluded. ***
