JAYAPURA - The journey of 170 years since the Gospel Message in Papua is not only a historical commemoration, but also a reflection on the great changes that have occurred in the Land of Papua. The presence of the gospel not only builds the spiritual life of the community, but also contributes to building character, encouraging productivity, and improving well-being.
The Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong, emphasized that the values brought by the Gospel must continue to be energy for the Papuan people in facing the challenges of the times. According to him, strong faith must be in line with hard work and the spirit of developing the region.
"170 years ago, the gospel came into Papua and brought a great change. This momentum must be a reminder for all of us to continue to move forward, be more productive, and improve the quality of faith and work ethic," said Ramses, Wednesday (5/2/2025).
According to him, history proves that the values of the Gospel have played a role in building an empowered Papuan society. Education, health, and the social life of the community are greatly influenced by the teachings brought by the missionaries.
Not only in the spiritual aspect, the presence of the Gospel also brings changes in the development of Papua. The Papua Provincial Government continues to strengthen synergy with the church in various social programs, education, and infrastructure development.
"The government not only supports the aspect of faith, but also through real assistance such as church construction and grant support. However, we must ensure that this assistance is given in a targeted and really useful way," said Ramses.
He also invited the church to continue to play an active role in building a more advanced Papua. The role of the church in providing education, character development, and building social solidarity is urgently needed to strengthen the togetherness of the Papuan people.
"We must interpret this commemoration as a call to continue to do good, work harder, and make Papua more advanced," concluded Ramses. ***
