JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government supports efforts to digitalize the payment system as part of the region’s economic transformation. This was conveyed by Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong, during the Kick-Off event of Semarak Rupiah Ramadan dan Berkah Idul Fitri (SERAMBI) 2025 at the Governor’s Office courtyard in Dok II, Jayapura, on Monday (March 3, 2025).
According to Ramses, Papua still heavily relies on cash transactions, especially in remote areas. Therefore, in addition to ensuring the availability of proper currency circulation, the government is also encouraging the public to transition to digital payments.
"We appreciate Bank Indonesia’s efforts in ensuring the smooth distribution of proper currency, especially ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. However, we also urge the public to start utilizing non-cash payment methods as part of the financial system’s digitalization in Papua," said Ramses.
He emphasized that digital payment methods offer convenience and security, particularly for those with access to banking services and the internet.
Meanwhile, as part of the SERAMBI 2025 program, Bank Indonesia has set up money exchange services in various regions to ensure the availability of proper cash circulation during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. ***
