JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government has ensured that fuel supplies across the region remain secure ahead of the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year holidays. Papua Governor Matius Fakhiri conveyed this assurance after conducting an unannounced inspection at the Pertamina Depot in Jayapura on Wednesday (3/12/2025).

The Governor stated that fuel supplies remain stable, supported by a shipping schedule in which tankers arrive every three days. Pertamina also maintains stock sufficient for ten days of consumption, keeping the risk of shortages very low.

“The government is confident that the fuel and gas stock in Papua Province is in a safe condition. Distribution to fuel stations is also running smoothly,” Fakhiri said.

“We must ensure the smooth flow of goods from the depot to the fuel stations so that the public receives proper service,” he added.

The Papua Provincial Government has also instructed the Transportation Office, together with the Papua Police, to strengthen supervision at fuel stations to maintain smooth distribution. The Governor emphasized the importance of controlling excessive purchases, the use of jerry cans, and the modification of vehicle fuel tanks, which can disrupt the distribution of subsidized fuel.

“Subsidized fuel is intended for low-income communities. Do not buy it and resell it to companies,” Fakhiri said.

“I ask that such practices be stopped. Other people need it,” he stressed.

The provincial government stated that stable fuel distribution directly supports economic activity in Papua, including agriculture, fisheries, transportation, and public services. The government ensured that routine coordination with Pertamina and security forces will continue throughout the Christmas and New Year period. ***
