JAYAPURA - The Papua Provincial Government through the local Plantation and Livestock Office appealed to pig farmers in its region to routinely conduct periodic health checks on farm animals.
This is to avoid transmission of the African Swine Fever (ASF) virus.
Acting Head of the Papua Provincial Plantation and Livestock Office, MP Koibur, in Jayapura, Tuesday.
"Until today in Papua Province, no ASF virus has been found, because we have closed access to livestock and processed pork products from outside the region," he said.
"However, farmers and the public should be careful in raising pigs. Must routinely check the health of livestock," he explained.
Koibur on that occasion also asked farmers to routinely spray disinfectant in every cage, to prevent the spread of the African Swine Fever virus.
The pig farmers can now take disinfectant at the relevant district/city office.
"But if the farmer finds any animal dead suddenly, please report it immediately. So that we can immediately carry out further handling, "he said.
As previously reported, the Head of the Livestock and Animal Health Office of Mimika Regency, Central Papua Sabelina Fitriani said that as of March 18, 2024, as many as 6,000 pigs died due to African Swine Fever. ***
