JAYAPURA - Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong in the opening of the General Election Commission (KPU) Working Meeting expressed his appreciation for the performance of the General Election Commission (KPU) which has held regional elections in all districts/cities in Papua. This was conveyed while attending the Papua Provincial General Election Commission Working Meeting with the Regency/City General Election Commission at a hotel in Jayapura on Friday, January 10, 2025.
In his remarks, Ramses Limbong emphasized the importance of local government neutrality in the Regional Election process. "If there are problems or lawsuits, I hope the General Election Commission can deal with them professionally by prioritizing the best for Papua," he said. I also hope that the General Election Commission can face all challenges, including lawsuits at the Constitutional Court with professionalism," he added.
Ramses Limbong also highlighted three districts that have not completed the Regional Grant Agreement (NPHD) Script. He hopes that the General Election Commission of the district/city concerned can immediately resolve this issue for the sake of the smooth process of the Regional Elections, especially related to legal settlement at the Constitutional Court.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Papua Provincial General Election Commission, Steve Dumbon, said that the success of the implementation of the Regional Elections, starting from planning, and distributing logistics, to the implementation and use of Si-Recap (electronic recapitulation application) deserves appreciation, "We are proud of the performance that has been achieved," said Steve Dumbon.
The existence of 14 Regional Head Election lawsuits at the Constitutional Court with the most lawsuits coming from Mamberamo Raya Regency and obstacles related to the realization of grant funds in three districts, namely Keerom, Waropen, and Biak, will still be resolved to support the smooth legal process at the Constitutional Court. "The preliminary session will start on January 15, 2025 for districts/cities, and January 16, 2025 for the Papua gubernatorial election," said Steve Dumbon.
Referring to the existence of a legal problem involving one of the Chairmen of the General Election Commission in Papua, Steve Dumbon hopes that this problem can be resolved soon.
The working meeting, which was attended by all chairmen/representatives of the Regency/City General Election Commission except Keerom Regency, aimed to evaluate the implementation of the Regional Elections and discuss the next steps, as well as to realize the implementation of a transparent and accountable Papua Regional Election to provide trust to the public. ***
