JAKARTA – Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Police Commissioner General Drs. H. Tomsi Tohir Balaw, M.Si., chaired a coordination meeting regarding concrete steps to control inflation in 2024, Monday (30/12/2024). Various strategies were formulated in the meeting to ensure price stability and maintain people's purchasing power.
In the meeting, Tomsi Tohir emphasized the need for cooperation between local governments and related stakeholders in monitoring beef supply to prevent the transmission of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in cattle and maintain food security. As Tomsi Tohir revealed by mentioning history, in 2022, we experienced similar things that impact meat supply and farmers' income.
Tomsi Tohir also emphasized the need to anticipate an increase in the price of "our oil" cooking oil and commodities that tend to exceed the highest retail price and mitigate risks to potential losses for farmers due to extreme weather changes in the harvest plan in early 2025. "The local government should evaluate in 2024 on supply, needs, balance sheets, and distribution as improvement materials for 2025, routinely monitor BMKG data on rainfall from December to January for anticipation during harvest, optimize swamp land, print rice fields and monitor post-Christmas and new year food supply and price conditions," he concluded.
In line with Tomsi Tohir, Papua Regional Secretary Yohanes Walilo who was present at the inflation control coordination meeting said that handling inflation in the regions needs to be carried out by collaborating between the Regional Work Unit and the government’s partners who are members of the Papua Province Regional Inflation Control Team by conducting market operations, cheap market movements and concrete efforts to control inflation in the regions.
"In principle, the Papua Provincial Government is ready to implement the things conveyed by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs," he concluded. Ending the coordination meeting, Yohanes Walilo also conveyed Happy Christmas and New Year to all participants of the inflation coordination meeting by reminding them to continue to establish communication and maintain cohesiveness for the progress of the Land of Papua. ***
