The agricultural product of farmers in Keerom, is sure to be marketed immediately to Blitar, East Java.
The certainty was conveyed by the Regent of Keerom, Dr. Muhammad Ridwan Rumasukun, SE, MM, in Keerom, Friday (11/20/2020).
He said that the plan to send dried corn produced by Keerom farmers out of Papua was soon realized. The agricultural products will be used as raw materials for livestock in Blitar.
"This is good news because livestock food producers in Blitar have a production storage capacity of up to 1,000 tons/day. That means whatever dried corn they send, they will receive it," he explained.
According to him, there are currently about 16 tons of dried corn from Keerom farmers ready to be marketed to Blitar. Although not in large numbers, it is considered very proud because it is a new income for the community in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Therefore, I hope that the stakeholders in Keerom and everywhere can support this program. So the farmers can increase their production capacity.”
"And now our job is to ensure that the production of dried corn is conclusive with the quality standards that livestock food producers in Blitar need," he said.
The head of Keerom Agriculture and Fisheries office, Sunar, mentioned from 12 hectares the area of corn planting land in Arsopura Village, Skanto District, 8 hectares have already been harvested.
"Indeed the weather becomes the main obstacle of farmers in the harvest process because when it rains they cannot do the harvest that has been done by means of mechanization".
"Now there are still 4 hectares that have not been harvested yet, if the weather supports, the harvest will be completed within 3-4 days," he said.
