The Papua Provincial Government asked to meet Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian next week to request guidance and direction regarding the settlement of indigenous claims on transmigration land in Kampung Karya Bumi, Namlong District, Jayapura Regency.
The area of land that is demanded for compensation by the local indigenous people is about 300 hectares more.
Nevertheless, the team from the Papua Provincial Government was not alone when meeting the Minister of Home Affairs. It was agreed that the meeting will be attended by representatives of Jayapura regency government and indigenous people in four districts namely Namblong, Nimbokrang, Kemtuk and Kemtuk Gresi.
This was as the decision was made in a meeting between the Acting Secretary of Papua, Doren Wakerkwa with Jayapura Regent Mathius Awoitauw and indigenous representatives from the four Districts in Sasana Karya Papua Governor's Office, Jayapura City, Friday (11/20/2020).
"Later, the team will report the matter to the Ministry of Home Affairs to ask for guidance and guidance on the measures to settle the payment of transmigration land compensation costs in Besum, as well as the demands of indigenous peoples".
"Because the governor or regent of Jayapura cannot pay. It's related to assets. Moreover, the land was occupied by transmigrates stationed by the Central Government in the 70s. Hopefully there will be a bright spot when we meet the Minister of Home Affairs," Doren hoped.
Meanwhile, the Regent of Jayapura, Mathius Awoitauw, considers the transmigration program to be a national domain. Therefore, he hopes the Central Government is responsible for resolving the issue of land compensation claims now used by transmigrants.
"Hopefully the Central Government can solve this problem not too long. Because from this meeting it was agreed that there is no more reliance from the local indigenous people," he hoped
The head of the settlement team as well as representatives of the indigenous people, Bernadus Sanggrawai there is certainty of land compensation payment in a meeting with the Minister of Home Affairs.
